L-3 Communications Link Simulation and Training Division awarded a $14,600,266 contract to RSI Visual Systems to update twelve Air Force T-1A Operational Flight Trainers (OFT). The update consists of removing the entire visual systems from the OFTs replacing with new visual systems designed and manufactured by RSI. The visual system incorporates the RSI Raster xT five channel image generator and the RSI Crossview 220 degree by 45 degree collimated front projection display utilizing a mylar mirror. Visual image databases for one hundred forty four airfields and a 10nm X 200 nm route used for visual navigation at five hundred feet above ground level are included, and a database development system is also being provided.
Three of the new visual systems will be installed at Columbus AFB, MS, two at Pensacola NAS, FL, three at Vance AFB, OK, three at Laughlin AFB, TX, and one at Randolph AFT, TX.
The display system is shipped and installed complete in one piece. RSI is able to install, align, test, and complete acceptance on the new visual system in nine days, including three to prepare the existing cockpit plus six days to install and test.
As of the end of June 2010, six of the visual systems, the DBDS, and the image databases have been installed on site and accepted, all on schedule. The visual systems and the DBDS were accepted with no discrepancies.
Manufacturing and installation continues on the remaining systems, with the program scheduled to be completed in January 2011.
